GoLow has developed as a 'bottom-up' initiative within the AWP community mental health teams in Bristol. Staff have looked for support to help reduce the need for driving in the course of their work. GoLow exists to provide realistic choices which reduce the cost and environmental impact of travel. In recent years the need for business travel has increased as services have beome more focussed on community support rather than inpatient care. Currently, AWP staff conduct over 4.5 Million business miles per year. This high level of mileage is mainly conducted in staff owned vehicles - known as Grey Fleet. Within AWP the Grey Fleet is particularly old, nearly 12 years on average, and inefficient, over 200g/km CO2 emissions. The collective cost to the Trust is over £2.5 Million.
